Baptism is a symbol of being born again. Going under the water symbolizes death and coming up out of the water symbolizes rebirth or newness in Christ. We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the father, we too might walk in newness of life. For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives (Romans 6:4).
