The Christian doctrine of the Trinity defines God as three divine persons; the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ), and the Holy Spirit. Though the three persons are distinct, yet they are one. As the illustration shows, God is, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, however, they are not God! Christ says,

4 Main Types of Prayers (A-C-T-S)

Adoration: Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty. Everything in the heavens and on earth is yours, O Lord, and this is your kingdom. We adore you as the one who is over all things(KJV 1 Chronicles 29:11)


Confession: If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness
(1 John 1:9)

 

Thanksgiving: And you will always give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.(Ephesians 5:20)
 

Supplication: 6 Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.7And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus (NLT Philippians 4:6-7)

Other Types of Prayers

Intercession: First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people
(ESV 1 Timothy 2:1)


Affirmation: For I have given them the words that you gave me, and they have received them and have come to know in truth that I came from you; and they have believed that you sent me (ESV John 17:8)


Positive: When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles (ESV Psalms 34:17)


Listening: Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you(ESV Jeremiah 29:12)


Meditation: My eyes are awake before the watches of the night, that I may meditate on your promise(ESV Psalms 119:148)


Singing: 19 addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, 20giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ(ESV Ephesians 5:19-20)
 

Tongues: And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability (NLT Acts 2:4)

Examples  of Prayer Postures

Standing: "Sir, do you remember me?" Hannah asked. "I am the woman who stood here several years ago praying to the Lord (1 Samuel 1:26)


Hands Raised: So wherever you assemble, I want men to pray with holy hands lifted up to God, free from anger and controversy (1 Timothy 2:8)
 

Sitting: Then King David went in and sat before the Lord and prayed, "Who am I, O Sovereign Lord, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far? (2 Samuel 7:18)
 

Kneeling: When Solomon finished making these prayers and requests to the Lord, he stood up in front of the altar of the Lord, where he had been kneeling with his hands raised toward heaven (1 Kings 8:54)
 

Bowing: The leaders were soon convinced that the Lord had sent Moses and Aaron. And when they realized that the Lord had seen their misery and was deeply concerned for them, they all bowed their heads and worshiped (Exodus 4:31)
 

Face Down Prayers: He went on a little farther and fell face down on the ground, praying, "My Father! If it is possible, let this cup of suffering be taken away from me. Yet I want your will, not mine." (Mathew 26:39)
 

Standing: 22 Then Solomon stood with his hands lifted toward heaven before the altar of the Lord in front of the entire community of Israel. 23 He prayed, "O Lord, God of Israel, there is no God like you in all of heaven or earth. You keep your promises and show unfailing love to all who obey you and are eager to do your will (1 Kings 8:22-33)
